My Songs

This is just a place to post some of the songs that have floated through my head over the years. Who knows, maybe some really cool band will come across this!

Won't You Please Come Home

V1:
Looking down an old dusty road
A father is overcome with grief
For the son he once held dear
Took it all and disappeared
To pursue his own earthly dreams
To pursue his own earthly dream.

Chorus:
And this father's saying won't you please come home?
Child, you can't make it on your own
There's forgiveness flowing free
Won't you please come home to me?

V2:
Walking down that same dusty road
A son has lost his way
Overwhelmed with his sin
Oh, how could he begin
To return after falling from grace?
To return after falling from grace

Chorus:
But there's a father saying won't you please come home?
Child, you can't make it on your own
There's forgiveness flowing free
Won't you please come home to me?

V3:
Are you walking down that same road?
And have you lost your way?
Overwhelmed by your sin
Oh, how could you begin
To return after falling from grace?
To return after falling from grace.

Chorus:
But there's a Father saying won't you please come home
Child, you can't make it on your own
There's forgiveness flowing free
Won't you please come home to me?

Bridge:
He's running with arms wide open
Let this be the night
That you embrace this healing
In Him you can confide
If you're tired and weary
And all hope seems lost
He will take your burdens
And nail them to the cross
And nail them to the cross.

Repeat chorus.

Song facts: Written today (5-20-06)...definitely one of the few times (if not the only time) I've finished a whole song in a day. This song was actually inspired by the prodigal talk/service at Chrysalis. Lauren Strickland and I are doing music on the next flight...maybe we could try this during our special music time. That would be pretty dog-gone cool! :o)

Run

V1:
Far too long have I quietly sat by and watched each day fade away
And far too long have I failed to see that I'm complacent with grace
But now I refuse to simply let the world spin by
Your mercy's called my name and it's time to rise

Chorus:
So I run to the cross
And I fall on my face
Bowing down before the holy Lamb of God
Who took my place
And I run to Your arms
To just be still in Your embrace
Mighty, omnipotent One
Lord, to You I run
Lord, to You I run.

V2:
Far too long have I built my house on the sand of earthly things
And far too long have I stowed away this heart that I now bring.
How you could love someone like me I'll never know
How divine, how amazing, this adoration I've just gotta show

Chorus:
So I run to the cross
And I fall on my face
Bowing down before the holy Lamb of God
Who took my place
And I run to Your arms
To just be still in your embrace
Mighty, omnipotent One
Lord, to You I run
Lord, to You I run.

Song facts:
Chorus written this past summer while lifeguarding (it can get pretty boring), first verse written..about 2 minutes ago. I'll get around to another verse later. Of course, I say that about every song. Oh well. This song was inspired by a video of the development of the Passion conference (started by Louie Giglio who is a totally awesome preacher). The video showed a segment of "Better is One Day:Live", which was the first Passion event. In the segment, these guys brought out this ginormous wooden cross and stood it up in the grass near the stage. Hundreds of teenagers literally ran and fell on their face at the foot of the cross. It was so awesome. Sooooo I decided to write a song about it!

I FINALLY WROTE THE SECOND VERSE! :op

The Worship Song

V1:
We gather here to worship You, oh God
We lift our hearts in this place
Praising the One who consumes every longing
This fire deep within we embrace.

Chorus:
Your mercy is flowing like a river before us
Sinking into our souls
As we lift our voices in this mighty chorus
Your spirit is making us whole.
Repeat.

V2:
Humbled and broken we stand before you
Unworthy to call out Your name
But still you draw near to redeem Your children
Forever, sweet Jesus, You'll reign.

Chorus:
Your mercy is flowing like a river before us
Sinking into our souls
As we lift our voices in this mighty chorus
Your spirit is making us whole.
Repeat

Bridge:
Be exalted in this place
Be exalted in this place
Be exalted in this place
Oh God!
(Repeat at least 3 more times)

Repeat chorus.

Song facts: Chorus was written a few days ago, verses written today. I actually finished a song! This doesn't happen very often because I tend to write a chorus then move on to a new song. Wahoo. It's not that hard to figure out, this song is for unified group worship.

I Wanna Be With You

I wanna be with You, Jesus
I wanna be with You, God
That intimate connection
So they see You in my reflection
In all I say and do
I wanna be with You.

Till all my days are through
My God, this claim is true
You're the one I'm running to

I wanna be with You, Jesus
I wanna be with You, God
That intimate connection
So they see You in my reflection
In all I say and do
I wanna be with You.

Song facts: Written during World Lit. a few days ago. I guess that class was good for something. The music kind of reminds me of Hootie and the Blowfish. Random, I know. It's just a simple rock chant type thing.

You Alone

You alone can heal my spirit
You alone can bring me comfort
And you alone can satisfy the hunger in my weary soul
You alone can mend the broken
You alone can claim I'm spoken for
And I will offer all my life to You alone.

Okay, try to follow me here. These choruses are sung at the same time. The first is the main moving part, and the second is the slower background part.

You alone can fill the emptiness in me
And I will glorify you alone.

So...together, you have...

You.................................a
You alone can heal my spirit
lone....................................can
You alone can mend the broken
fill.................................the emp.....ti......ness.. in........ me
And you alone can satisfy the hunger in my weary soul
..........................................And I...
You alone can mend the broken
.........................................Will........ glor-i-
You alone can claim I'm spoken for
..................-fy................you...........alone.
And I will offer all my life to You alone.

Got it?

For Your Glory

V1:
I don't have much to offer to the King of all kings
But I'm bowing down before You and this sinner's heart is all I have to bring
So Lord, if you are willing to use a wretch like me
I will never rest until Your will is done
Lord, this is my offering.

Chorus:
For Your glory
I will climb the highest mountain
I will swim the deepest ocean
Go wherever You may lead
For Your glory
I will pay the price to follow
And I will gladly give my life to one day see...
Your glory.

Song facts: Written less than a year ago; I tried to get away from the same old GCD chord progressions for this one- Capo 4 with some pretty E bar chords

On That Day

V1:
The children of God have kept a watchful eye
For the coming of the Lord
We know not the day, but we've prepared the way
For the day we'll receive our great reward.

Chorus:
The clouds will part in great glory
When the trumpet sounds we'll be swept away
All of creation will sing redemption's story
Everlasting life
In paradise
Will be waiting for me on that day.

Bridge:
And on that day every knee will bow
And on that day every eye will see
The majesty, wonder, power, and might
Of Jesus Christ the King.

V2:
We strive to overcome the trappings of this world
For we know we're not along
We've labored through the night
But we await that sight
Of our Savior coming to bring us home.

Repeat chorus.
Repeat bridge.
Repeat chorus.

Song facts: Written 3 years ago; pretty up-beat.

Under the Blood

V1:
Cast down by the weight of sin's awful curse
It seems as though this crazy world just gets worse and worse
Searching for healing of this broken life
I saw the hill of Calvary, and it was then I realized...

Chorus:
My sins are under the blood
I've been forgiven and redeemed
Through Jesus Christ the King
His suffering paved the way
Every drop
That fell from the cross
Brought salvation to the lost
Mercy flowing like a flood
Under the blood.

V2:
I can not comprehend what He felt that day
The same people He renewed now shunned Him away
The holy Lamb of God payed the price
Through the breaking of His body, His death restored my life.

Repeat chorus.

Bridge:
And I am humbled just to know He knows my name
That precious flow of crimson red gives me power to proclaim...

Chorus:
My sins are under the blood
I've been forgiven and redeemed
Through Jesus Christ the King
His suffering paved the way
Every drop that fell from the cross
Brought salvation to the lost
Mercy flowing like a flood
Under the blood.

Song facts: Written about 2 years ago; one of my teachers in high school was talking about how he used to have a rather alternative lifestyle, but "now all that's under the blood." I thought that was pretty cool.

I Will Stand

Chorus:
I will stand, I will sing
I will hail You as King
I will bow and obey
I will prepare the way
I will shout to the sky
I will lift Your name high
By the strength of Your hand
I will stand
By the strength of Your hand
I will stand.

V1:
Savior, redeemer, and friend
I will worship you until the very end
Lord, I offer you all of my praise
Jesus, holy and true
I will honor Your will in all that I do
Till the day we meet face to face.

Repeat chorus.

Song facts: Written 3 years ago; not one of my favorites, the music is kind of redundant

Fly with Christ

Chorus:
Fly with Christ
Spread your wings and soar
He will lift you to new heights
You will never long for more
Fly with Christ
Let Him transform your life
He'll be the wind beneath your wings
Fly with Christ.

V1:
Anyone in Christ is a new creation
The old is gone and the new has come
So let Him change your heart
Embrace a brand new start
Through Jesus the victory is won.

Repeat chorus.

Bridge:
It's time to take the next steps
And change the world with this light
It's time to make a difference
It's time to take flight.

Christ is counting on us
And we are counting on Christ
Repeat x3

Repeat chorus.

Song facts: This song is based on Chrysalis, and if you haven't been then it's kind of hard to explain all the different elements. First off, "Fly with Christ" is the motto for Chrysalis and the verse is 2 Cor. 5:17, which is in the first verse. Other references in the song are from things that occur on the flight. Let me know if you want to go! It's the bomb diggity.

He Chose the Cross

Chorus:
He chose the cross
When He could have chosen life
He chose the nails
He chose the ultimate sacrifice
He chose to die
He saw my face and heard my cry
And when it seemed all hope was lost
He chose the cross
He chose the cross.

Song facts: Written around 4 years ago; once again, no verses; piano song

Praise Him

Chorus:
Praise Him
Praise Him every day
When you think you've lost your way
Just lift your voice to Heaven
Praise Him
Raise your hands and sing
All glory to the King forevermore
Praise Him.

Song facts: Written about 5 years ago; never got around to the verses for this one either...maybe one day; it's more of a piano song (mainly because it's in Bb, which is NOT my favorite key for guitar)

Christ Is Coming Soon

Chorus:
Christ is coming soon
The signs are everywhere
The time is drawing near
The trumpet we will hear
He will meet us in the air
We will behold our King
His praises shall ring
He has heard our cries
It can not be denied
Christ is coming soon.

Bridge:
We must prepare the way
We have no time to waste
I am waiting for that glorious day
I will see my Savior's face

Chorus

Song facts: Written around 5 years ago; never got around to writing verses; music is really slow

Into Thy Hands

V1:
Hanging on that rugged cross
What was going through His mind
Father, please forgive them
Father, not My will but Thine.

Br. 1:
Then with one final breath
With all his strenght my Jesus cried
For He had one last request
He lifted His head to the sky...

Chorus 1:
Into thy hands
Into thy hands
I've paid the price, sacrificed
Father, hear my cry
Into thy hands.

V2:
Living in this toilsome world
We're wandered through the darkness all alone
Unwilling to sacrifice
We've tried to face the pain on our own.

Br. 2:
But now the time has come
To humbly bow before Christ
We lay it all down at Your feet
Oh , Father, hear our cries.

Chorus 2:
Into thy hands
Into thy hands
You paid the price, you gave me life
Now my heart I'll sacrifice
Into thy hands.

Song facts: Written 4 or 5 years ago; very mellow sounding.

Proclaim the Name

V1:
In this world we often stumble
We're afraid to rise above it all
But I have made my decision
To answer to the call

Chorus:
I will proclaim the name of Jesus
I will stand and not be ashamed
I will spread His awesome power
I will proclaim the name
I will proclaim the name.

V2:
We must learn to face the evil
That plagues the world and feeds on our lives
We must find the strenght to conquer
And trust in God, for He's on our side.

Chorus:
I will proclaim the name of Jesus
I will stand and not be ashamed
I will spread His awesome power
I will proclaim the name
I will proclaim the name.

Song facts: Written about 6 years ago; was the theme for our youth worship service; the music for this song is hard rock (electric guitar, grungy power chords). Rock on!

He Will Never Let the Righteous Fall

V1:
Carrying so many burdens
The load is so heavy, we feel we can't go on
We're trying to climb, but our hands keep on slipping
This winding road of life seems so long..

Chorus:
(But) He will never let the righteous fall
He will pick us up and carry us through it all
Through the darkness and the pain
Our Father's mercy we will gain
He will never let the righteous fall.

V2:
Sometimes we're overwhelmed with our calling from the King
This earthly fight with evil makes our mission stall
But sin's debt has been paid, His comfort's only a prayer away
He will never let the righteous fall.

Repeat chorus.

Bridge:
He will lift us up, we'll see His beautiful face
When we bow before His throne, we'll receive grace

Repeat chorus.

Song facts: I wrote this song around 5 years ago; based on Psalm 55:22 - "Cast your cares on the LORD and he will sustain you; He will never let the righteous fall." The girls on my Chrysalis flight sang it at closing. It was pretty cool.
